to all. The oath taken by lawyers at the time of enrolment and that of the Judges is the same in continue.
Hence together we shall strive to redeem the pledge.
19) Today it would be proper for us to remember those legal luminaries who have practiced in Madras and then
the High Court of Andhra from 1953 to 1956 and have reached the pinnacle in the profession.
20) Justice B.P.Jeevan Reddy at ‘Centenary celebrations of Chief Justice K.Subba Rao’ reported in (2003) 8 SCC
(Jour) 41 said and I Quote “Shri Justice K.Subba Rao, the first Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court
and the first and the only Judge till now, from Andhra Pradesh to be appointed the Chief Justice of India, was
a man of strict discipline and high learning. He was, without a doubt, a great Judge who left his deep imprint
on the development of constitutional law in India. He was an original thinker and a staunch proponent of
fundamental rights in our Constitution. Fundamental rights were an article of faith with him”. Unquote.
Justice Venkatachaliah said about Justice Chinnappa Reddy and I quote: Justice Reddy who is far ahead of
his times ‘Chose new ingredients from the social and economic compulsions of a society, grimly struggling
to break the ancient shackles of poverty, ignorance, superstition, social inequalities and economic and
psychic exploitations.” Unquote.
21) This region has given Judges to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India who have contributed immensely to
cause of Justice in the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Koka Subba Rao, Justice Satyanarayana Raju, Justice
Chinnappa Reddi, Justice K.Rama Swamy, Justice Jayachandra Reddy, Justice M.Jagannadha Rao, Justice
Chelameshwar, sitting Judges Sri Justice N.V.Ramana and Sri Justice L.Nageswara Rao. Many Chief Justices
of the erstwhile State of Andhra Pradesh are from this region. All these Judges have left an indelible mark on
the Judiciary and we should seek light from them to go forward in the administration of Justice.
22) There have been eminent lawyers from this region to start with Andhra Kesari Sri Tanguturi Prakasham
Pantulu and the endless lawyers who fought for independence. Sri D.Narasa Raju and Sri Vishwanatha
Shastry have reached the pinnacle in the profession earning name for their eminence in the entire country.
Senior Lawyer late Sri P.Ramachandra Reddy has a record of sought ie., Advocate General for 13 years,
a rare achievement in any part of the country. Two senior lawyers went on to lead the Bar Council as its
Chairman Sri V.R. Reddy and Sri D.V.Subba Rao.
23) I profoundly thank the Senior Advocates and other bar members of the Bar for not only bringing back the
legacies, but also for shifting their offices to Vijayawada with solemn intention to strain every nerve to hold
the legal fraternity on high pedestal. By cooperation and healthy competition, this united Bar is bound
to be a strong one than its component parts. I have no doubt that the united bar which possesses great
talent, erudition and advocacy, would help the Court to dispose of its work quickly and discharge its arrears
expeditiously.
24) Today is not day of merit call, challenges are many. I, on behalf of my brotherand sister Judges pray that
this Court shall rise to greater heights.
